Job
Overview
The Maintenance Mechanic ensures
reliable operation of all machinery, vehicles, and mining equipment on site.
The role demands technical expertise in mechanical systems, hydraulics,
pneumatics, and auto-electrical components, with a strong emphasis on
safety and preventive maintenance.
This is a highly impactful role
supporting continuous mining operations and minimizing equipment downtime.
Key Responsibilities
1.
Maintenance & Repair
- Perform routine preventive maintenance on machinery and
vehicles.
- Diagnose and fix mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and
auto-electrical faults.
- Conduct repairs that ensure long service life and
optimal equipment performance.
2.
Spare Parts & Tools Management
- Identify required spare parts and tools for repairs.
- Maintain updated inventory records for easy tracking
and procurement.
- Ensure availability of critical components to reduce
downtime.
3.
Inspections & Diagnostics
- Conduct routine equipment inspections to identify early
issues.
- Use diagnostic tools to detect malfunctions and plan
timely repairs.
- Follow maintenance schedules strictly.
4.
Safety & Compliance
- Carry out all tasks in alignment with safety policies
and environmental standards.
- Participate in toolbox talks, safety drills, and risk
assessments.
- Promote a culture of safety within the workshop and
field.
5.
Reporting & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities.
- Submit repair reports and highlight recurring issues.
- Track parts usage and time spent on each job.
6.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Work closely with Engineers, Mechanics, and
Supervisors.
- Provide guidance to assistant mechanics or apprentices.
- Ensure effective communication to reduce downtime.
7.
Continuous Improvement
- Suggest ideas to improve equipment reliability and
maintenance efficiency.
- Participate in professional development training.
8.
Emergency Response
- Be available for emergency call-outs and urgent
repairs.
- Act quickly to restore equipment functionality during
breakdowns.
9.
Other Duties
- Perform additional tasks assigned by management.
Job Requirements
Education
& Certifications
- Minimum TVET Certificate Level III in Mechanical
Engineering, Automotive Technology, or related fields.
- Maintenance certification (e.g., Certified Maintenance
& Reliability Technician) is an added advantage.
- Valid driver’s license.
Experience
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience in
machinery maintenance.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and repair heavy-duty
equipment.
Technical
Skills
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and
pneumatic systems.
- Ability to read technical drawings and repair manuals.
- Familiarity with modern diagnostic tools.
Soft
Skills
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work under pressure in a high-demand
environment.
Physical
Requirements
- Physically fit for handling heavy parts and working in
confined spaces.
- Willing to work in varying weather conditions typical
of mining operations.
Other
Requirements
- Willing to work overtime, weekends, or holidays when
needed.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional
development.
